Kobe, Lakers Complete 20-Point Comeback
Kobe Bryant scored 25 of his 27 points in the second half as his Lakers overcame a 20-point third-quarter deficit to escape with a Game 1 victory in L.A. on Wednesday night. Bryant hit a free throw to give the Lakers their first lead with 2:42 left in the fourth quarter, and then hit the go-ahead bucket -- a pull-up jumper in the lane -- with 23.9 seconds to give L.A. a two-point lead. The Lakers won 89-85.
Tim Duncan carried the load for San Antonio, finishing with a game-high 30 points and game-high 18 rebounds, but his Spurs managed just 13 points in the final quarter and let their large lead slip away. Pau Gasol was one of four Lakers in double figures, scoring 18 on 9-of-16 shooting, and Sasha Vujacic put in the final two points of the game: a pair of free throws in the final seconds to ice the victory.
The Spurs will look to even the series when Game 2 rolls around, Friday at 9 ET on TNT.
This is the repeat of the 2002 - 2004 rivalry, and the lakers will avenge that season this year.
i believe they will enter this year.
