Pistons Win in Boston, Steal Home-Court Edge
The Detroit Pistons on Thursday pulled off a rarity in this year's NBA Playoffs, winning on the road and doing it against the Boston Celtics, who were previously unbeaten at the TD Banknorth Garden in nine home games in the postseason.
With the win, not only did the Pistons tie the Eastern Conference Finals at one game apiece; they also seized the home-court advantage that has meant everything to the Celtics.
Richard Hamilton bounced back from a subpar Game 1 performance to score 25 points, while Chauncey Billups contributed 19 points and seven assists for the Pistons, who will host Games 3 and 4 starting on Saturday.
Antonio McDyess added 15 points, Tayshaun Prince chipped in with 14, while Rasheed Wallace posted 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Boston was led by its "Big Three". Paul Pierce scored a game-high 26 points, and Ray Allen broke out of a postseason-long slump to notch 25 points. Kevin Garnett had a double-double game, finishing with 24 points and 13 rebounds.
The Pistons built an 11-point fourth-quarter lead, but the Celtics came back to cut it down to two, 92-90, on jumper by Garnett with 3:30 left in the game. Two unanswered baskets by Prince and Wallace gave Detroit a safe cushion.
Boston mounted another last-ditch effort, coming to within three on an Allen trey with 10.3 seconds left. But three free throws by Wallace and Prince sealed the win for Detroit.
The win was the Pistons' ninth straight Game 2 victory since the 2006 playoffs.
Game 3 is on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
Gentlemen we are back on track, lets cheer the pistons wear white this game 3 at the palace let us rock on!!! DEEEETROIT BASKETBALL!!!!
