McDyess Helps Pistons Even Series with Celts
Antonio McDyess got the Detroit Pistons off to a quick start, and they had enough at the finish.
McDyess had 21 points and 16 rebounds and the Pistons never trailed Monday, holding on for a 94-75 home victory over the Boston Celtics that evened the Eastern Conference Finals at two games each.
McDyess, who scored eight points in Detroit's Game 3 loss, had eight in a 10-0 burst that opened the game and gave the Pistons permanent control. They led by as many as 14 points in the second quarter before the cold-shooting Celtics closed to 43-39 at halftime.
Boston pulled within two points early in the third period before McDyess scored four in a 10-2 spurt that rebuilt the lead to double digits. Detroit led by at least five points thereafter, and a 3-pointer by Chauncey Billups - the first of the game for the Pistons - sealed it at 83-73 with 2:55 to go.
Richard Hamilton scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half and Jason Maxiell and Rasheed Wallace scored 14 points each for Detroit, which shot 51 percent and committed just seven turnovers.
Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce scored 16 points apiece for Boston, which shot under 32 percent and fell to 1-7 on the road in the postseason.
However, the Celtics are 9-1 at home, where they will be for Game 5 on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
